Artist's Comments

Just an old piece of mine, but I really like it and it still holds up as an illustrative piece on its own, even being drawn quite some time ago. I actually had a turtle to draw from that my brother caught in our backyard. No real inspiration for this, all I wanted to do was a sort of a still-life with a bit of flare, and I thought of boring fruit...and then we had this turtle...

Graphite on paper.

*EDIT* 4-22-06: Wow, a DD on this guy? I never saw it coming. But that's a ton to for featuring it. Glad you all like it!

A little bit whimsical and a little bit quizzical, Orange Turtle by *blueRaptoR77 stuck out when I went mulling about the galleries on an April morning. (Featured by `zeruch)

Very nice! It takes a while before you realize what's wrong..=)
I've always wondered how you artists who can draw that smoothly/detailed (like the wrinkles of the orange..) actually do it? Do I have to use a very compact pencil?

Actually all I used was a 2b mechanical pencil. They can stay nice and sharp but after a while you figure out how to work out a flat area of the lead and shade in areas ever-so cleanly...but it just takes a while. I found that doing drawings like these were kind of relaxing, not having to worry about a lot of content or anything, just the detail.
:iconmediocrelife:
so you stuffed that turtle in the orange! oh my. lol. Actually, this is a very nice drawing, the detail is really nice and both the turtle and orange look realistic (I also like how you added the shadow.) :) great work.
:iconreptileshadows:
That's amazing! The turtle's head looks so real, and the orange is really rather strange (in an interesting way!)
